The Chicago Sky officially have a new home, as the team was joined by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to announce their move to Wintrust Arena.
The arena, built near McCormick Place and currently home to DePaul’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, will host all 17 home games for the Sky this season as they move from Rosemont’s Allstate Arena.
“On behalf of sports fans across the city, I want to welcome the Chicago Sky to their new home right here in the city of Chicago,” Emanuel said. “This move by the Chicago Sky will mean more jobs and economic opportunities on Chicago’s South Side and in neighborhoods across the city.”
The team also announced a partnership with UChicago Medicine, which will provide cardiac screenings and other healthcare to the team’s players.
The partnership will also be used to host a basketball and health clinic at Wintrust Arena on April 22. The Sky and UChicago Medicine say they hope the event will break a world record as the largest basketball clinic ever held.
The Sky will feature the UChicago Medicine logo on their jerseys this season as part of the partnership agreement. The team’s schedule, which has yet to be announced by the WNBA, will kick off in May.
