Crazy Rumor of the Day: Blackhawks Interested in Mats Sundin?

Former Maple Leafs center, and current free agent, Mats Sundin hasn't officially announced whether or not he's going to be making a return to the NHL this season. There's certainly been some interest in his services, but his asking price during the free agency period was rumored to be in the area of $10 million per season. That's why it's a little hard to believe a note in today's Chicago Sun Times that the Blackhawks may have an interest in the 37-year old center.

From Len Ziehm:

The latest Internet report from Canada has the Hawks expressing interest in former Toronto captain Mats Sundin, who hasn't decided if he wants to play again. The Hawks would have to clear considerable cap room to sign him.

I'm sure the Blackhawks, like most teams, have some sort interest in Sundin. If interest could be defined as, "Hey, wouldn't he look good playing for us?"

Chicago, as of right now, is pretty tight against the NHL's salary cap, and if Sundin hasn't come down significantly from his early season asking price, there's absolutely no way he'll be lacing up his skates for the Blackhawks. File this one under: Not likely.
