Matt Forte a Source of Stability for Bears

After last week's win over Detroit, Bears fans knew that Forte could be an exciting tool on offense, but assumed it was mostly on the ground. He gained 126 yards on the ground, albeit against a sad Lions team. The Bears had enough receivers that Forte didn't need to worry about trying to catch the ball, too. During this week's loss against the Titans, Forte showed that he can be an all-around player.

In addition to the 72 yards Forte ran today, he caught for an additional 54 yards. He scored both of the Bears' touchdowns, one by air and one by land. He was the Bears' leading receiver and rusher today and did it against the number six defense in the National Football League. Despite lining up as a running back, he leads the Bears in receptions on the season. He also hasn't had a single fumble in 189 carries.

His reliability on offense is something that the Bears have lacked as of late. Rashied Davis had a big game against the Lions on Oct. 5, but the rest of his season has been lackluster. Devin Hester's high game came against Atlanta with just 87 yards, but the kick return albatross around his neck has weighed heavy, and he has not been the receiver we had hoped him to be. Marty Booker didn't catch a single ball today, and gave up a dumb false start penalty that affected the Bears field position. Forte's consistency has anchored the offense.

The Bears offense is in flux enough at the quarterback position with Kyle Orton's sprained ankle and Rex Grossman's erratic arm. It's refreshing to find some stability in a rookie, Forte.
