Kyle Schwarber ‘Day-to-Day' With Back Issue, Joe Maddon Says

Schwarber hit a home run after tweaking his back during the game, Maddon said

Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber left Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers due to injury, manager Joe Maddon confirmed after the contest.

Schwarber, who has 25 home runs on the season, injured his back while sliding into third base during the game, according to Maddon. After the slugger told Maddon about his back, he promptly went out and hit a prodigious home run, and was removed from the game after he gingerly rounded the bases.

Maddon told media in Milwaukee that Schwarber is day-to-day.

The Cubs have been battling injury issues all season long, and they've already dodged a bullet this week with Anthony Rizzo, who suffered a contusion on his right foot after fouling off a pitch during Tuesday's game.

Rizzo was removed from that contest, but he was able to play on Wednesday night.
