Questionable tattoos are often the sign of a rough and regrettable night, but for a Cubs fan in Iowa, indeterminate ink is an emblem of unwavering optimism.
Noel Brown, a father and youth baseball coach, won a contest hosted by Des Moines radio station 1460 KXnO and Lucky Gal Tattoo and Piercing to see if any Cubs fans would get some World Series championship body art—before it even started.
“My wife thinks maybe I’m a little bit nuts because I’m getting it before they win the World Series,” Brown said in a video posted to the station’s Facebook page.
The tattoo features a banner that reads “Holy cow!! Curse Broken 2016 World Series Champions,” in addition to a Cubs logo framing a goat’s head.
“As a Cubs fan you gotta be optimistic, they will win,” Brown said. “Statistically this is the best year they’ve had since 1945, they’re set to win, they will win. If they don’t, I still got a pretty awesome tattoo.”
