Rizzo climbs further up Cubs' all-time home run list originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Anthony Rizzo's name will be involved in trade rumors over the next few weeks. In the meantime, the Cubs first baseman continues to re-write the franchise record books.
Rizzo crushed a solo home run in the fourth inning of Friday's game against the Diamondbacks. It not only put the Cubs ahead 2-1, but got him a step closer to team history.
With that home run, Rizzo is now tied with longtime Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez for sixth on the franchise's all-time home run list, with 239.
Rizzo will be all alone in sixth place with his next blast, but he has some work to do to reach fifth.
Ryne Sandberg's 282 blasts are next on the list. The Hall of Famer played 15 seasons on the North Side, while Rizzo is in his 10th.
Rizzo and other Cubs players could be traded before the July 30 deadline. But if the 31-year-old, who is set to hit free agency this winter, remains on the North Side long term, he'll certainly pass Sandberg and continue his climb after that.
