Bears add 3 players to COVID-19 list, including Goldman originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Bears announced on Tuesday that Eddie Goldman, Artie Burns and Sam Kamara are all headed to the reserve/COVID-19 list. It’s the second time Goldman is heading into the COVID-19 protocols this year.
Without Goldman in the lineup, the Bears will have to lean on seventh-round rookie Khyiris Tonga to clog up the middle of the defensive line. The team could also give more snaps to Margus Hunt. If Akiem Hicks is able to return from his ankle injury, it could help shore up the defensive line as well.
Losing Burns is more bad news for a secondary that is already missing many players. Burns had been starting alongside Jaylon Johnson, in place of Kindle Vildor who was benched due to making many mental mistakes on the field. Meanwhile, the defensive back room is already without DeAndre Houston-Carson, Duke Shelley, Xavier Crawford and Teez Tabor. With so many DBs down Sean Desai had to move top safety down to play slot corner, while inserting Deon Bush in at safety to replace Jackson. If Burns can’t play on Sunday, one possibility to replace him on the roster would be to elevate sixth-round draft pick Thomas Graham to the active roster. Graham has yet to make his NFL debut.
Kamara has played in five games this season, largely on special teams. He hasn’t played since the Bears’ Thanksgiving Day win against the Lions.
The Bears also placed Mario Edwards Jr. on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday.
