Hawks' Kane surpasses Denis Savard in franchise assists originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane surpassed Denis Savard for second-most assists in franchise history.

The future Hall-of-Famer recorded his 720th assist in the third period Sunday when Caleb Jones scored against the Florida Panthers for a 3-2 game. At first glance, it looked like Dylan Strome tapped the puck in, but Jones was officially credited with the goal for his second of the season.

Kane put the Hawks up first late in the first period after scoring on an incredible shot from behind the red line against Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. It was Kane's 13th goal of the season and 417th in his career.

Kane was drafted by the Blackhawks first overall in the 2007 NHL Draft and Savard was his first head coach. Kane now sits behind Stan Mikita who leads the Blackhawks in franchise assists with 926.

The Blackhawks lost 5-2, dropping their seventh straight home game.
