Cubs Injury Updates: Wade Miley Rehab Assignment, David Bote Next?

Cubs' Miley starting rehab assignment, Bote soon? originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Wade Miley will officially begin his rehab assignment and pitch for Triple-A Iowa on Thursday. Iowa is on the road against St. Paul.

Miley has missed the start of the season after opening on the injured list with left elbow inflammation. He did not pitch in spring training after taking a cautious approach to his workload during MLB’s lockout.

The veteran lefty said Tuesday he’s looking to build up to 3-to-4 innings before joining the Cubs and is looking forward to his eventual team debut.

“I can’t wait,” Miley said. “I’ve been with the team this whole time and have just been itching to get out there and compete."

Here's the latest updates on other injured Cubs players:

David Bote (left shoulder)

May 4: It may not be long before David Bote is back with the Cubs.

The tentative plan is for Bote to begin a rehab assignment in about two weeks. He's missed the start of the season after undergoing left shoulder surgery over the offseason.

Bote dislocated his left shoulder last May and missed two months. He joined the Cubs for their homestand this week and took batting practice Wednesday.

Bote is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list June 6 (a Cubs off day). Big-league players may spend a maximum of 20 days on a rehab assignment.

He dislocated his left shoulder last May and missed two months.

Andrelton Simmons (right shoulder)

May 3: Andrelton Simmons continues to take live batting practice and infield work, throwing across the diamond, in Arizona. He could begin a rehab assignment soon.

Simmons opened the season on the injured list with right shoulder soreness. He only appeared in one Cactus League game, serving as the designated hitter.

The Cubs signed Simmons, a four-time Gold Glove shortstop, to a one-year deal in March after MLB’s lockout.
