Cubs' Javy Báez Wins Fielding Bible Award as MLB's Top Shortstop

Báez wins Fielding Bible Award as MLB’s top shortstop originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Cubs shortstop Javier Báez will take home at least one defensive honor this offseason, with the chance for more.

Báez, an NL Gold Glove Award finalist, has been named the shortstop winner of the 2020 Fielding Bible Award as MLB’s top defensive player at the position.

A panel of 12 baseball experts from Baseball Info Solutions vote by ranking the top five defensive players at each position, first place receiving five points, second receiving four and so on.

This mark’s Báez’ fourth Fielding Bible Award, the previous three as the Multi-Position Award winner. He finished second among shortstops to the Diamondbacks’ Nick Ahmed in 2019 by two points.

Báez finished third in baseball this season in Defensive Runs Saved (seven) and fourth in Outs Above Average (four) among shortstops.

Gold Glove winners will be announced Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
