David Kampf moves on from Hawks, finds a new home originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
David Kampf has found a new home.
The 26-year-old forward has agreed to terms with the Toronto Maple Leafs on a two-year contract. His cap hit is $1.5 million.
Kampf spent his first four NHL seasons in Chicago, where he compiled 58 points (17 goals, 41 assists) in 235 career games. He had 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) in 56 games this season and averaged a career-high of 14:40 in time on ice.
Kampf served as the primary defensive specialist for the Blackhawks with Jonathan Toews out, but with the Blackhawks acquiring center/winger Tyler Johnson, signing forward Jujhar Khaira and extending Adam Gaudette this offseason, it was hard to see where Kampf fit into the picture moving forward.
Kampf signed with the Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2017. He was coming off a two-year, $2 million deal and was not given a qualifying offer by Chicago on Monday, which made him an unrestricted free agent.
