How White Sox' Loss to Angels Inspired Three-Game Win Streak

'Enough of this': How Sox snapped out of losing skid originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

For the first time since April 12th, the White Sox have won three games in a row. After a rough two weeks that included an eight-game losing streak and a 2-11 stretch, the team seems to have turned a corner. The defense looks sharper, the starters and relievers have both been effective and the bats have finally started to wake up.

But according to Lucas Giolito, the turning point came before the recent win streak began, in the Sox’ 6-5 loss to the Angles on Sunday. The team was down five runs headed into the final frame, and mounted a serious rally to make the game interesting. Ultimately the comeback fell short, however that effort inspired something within the team.

“We collectively as a group were like, ‘Enough of this. We could play such better baseball,’” Giolito said. “We know how to string hits together, we know how to play clean defense.”

Despite the loss, Giolito noticed higher energy from the team with increased focus on execution from that point forward.

“We just keep it rolling from there,” Giolito said.

“I think that momentum carried onto the next day,” said Matt Foster. “It's starting to carry on now and we're keeping that train rolling.”

Tony La Russa is certainly glad his team is starting to get on a roll, but he’s not ready to declare the little win streak any major accomplish yet. He was quick to point out that the team still has a losing record after digging themselves a hole in April.

“Get over .500 by a bunch, and then start getting serious,” La Russa said.

He’s not trying to be a downer, just realistic.

“We're going to enjoy the moment right now and during the off day,” La Russa said. “But we're looking forward to going to Fenway.”
