MLB Power Rankings 2021: Standings at Beginning of May

MLB Power Rankings 2021: Standings at start of May originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

After some early-season surprises, some of MLB's preseason contenders are turning things around with the calendar flipped to May.

In the American League, the Yankees and Astros are inching closer to first place in their respective divisions, after sitting under .500 as recently as last week.

In the National League, the Cardinals are on the Brewers' doorstep for first in the Central. St. Louis' starting staff is pitching better after a rough start.

We've also seen some contenders surprisingly struggle.

The Dodgers no longer lead the NL West and find themselves in a tight race after a recent skid. The Braves, Los Angeles' opponent in the NLCS last season, have been up-and-down in 2021, although they're in the thick of things in the NL East.

No team wins their division in April, but things haven't gone as expected across the league landscape in the season's first four weeks.

Here's how all 30 teams stack up entering the first full week of May.
