Report: Ex-Sox outfielder Eaton could coach with Angels originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Adam Eaton was the Chicago White Sox' Opening Day right fielder last season. He hit the team's first home run of a division-championship campaign.
Now he could be on the verge of retirement and a spot on a major league coaching staff.
According to a report from The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, Eaton is considering retiring from a 10-year career in the big leagues and is a candidate for a job as a coach on Joe Maddon's staff with the Los Angeles Angels.

Eaton's second tenure with the White Sox, which came after signing a free-agent deal last offseason, went poorly. Inked to be the team's primary right fielder in 2021, he was bedeviled by leg issues in the season's early going, and though he attempted to play through them, he mustered just a .201 batting average and an on-base percentage south of .300 in 58 games. The Angels picked him up after he was released in early July, and he played 25 games there before being released again in mid August.

Now, Eaton could retire.
According to Rosenthal, Eaton is currently prevented from doing anything as a locked-out member of the players' union. The union believes that because Eaton has been without a spot on a major league 40-man roster since August, he shouldn't be part of the locked-out group and should be able to pursue the coaching job should the Angels offer it to him.

So just like everything else baseball-related at this moment in time, Eaton and the Angels are stuck in limbo.
