Report: Packers to Hire Rich Bisaccia as Special Teams Coach

Report: Packers to hire Rich Bisaccia as special teams coach originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Packers quest to fix their special teams may begin with a man linked to the Bears over the past several weeks. According to Ian Rapoport, Green Bay is expected to make Rich Bisaccia their next special teams coach.

The Packers locked up the No. 1 seed in the NFC this season after going 13-4. But they lost to the 49ers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs after making several miscues on special teams. The most devastating mistake was a blocked punt that went for a game-tying touchdown with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

The 49ers also blocked a Mason Crosby field goal attempt heading into halftime, which kept the score 7-0.

Meanwhile, Bisaccia was named the Raiders interim head coach after Jon Gruden was fired for sending emails with racist, homophobic and mysogenistic language. When news came out that Bisaccia would not be the Raiders head coach moving forward, many players shared high praise for the job he did rallying the team.

Last season the Packers ranked No. 30 in kick return average, and No. 20 in punt return average. According to Sports Illustrated, Green Bay also ranked dead last in punt coverage (12.8 yards allowed/punt) and kickoff starting point (23.4 yard line).
