Jake Burger’s first big league hit is impossibly fitting originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
In his third at-bat of the night, and the third of his major league career, Jake Burger popped one up high into right field, and what looked to be an insignificant speck of a play turned out to be one that Burger will never forget.
The ball sailed into the night sky, and Tigers’ center fielder Daz Cameron stood befuddled in shallow right-center as it dissolved in the stadium lights. By the time his right-hand man, Robbie Grossman, came to the rescue, it was too late.
The moment was almost as impossible as Burger’s journey to the big leagues was itself.
It wasn't a glamorous hit, but it was a base-hit nonetheless. And hopefully the start of a long and healthy career for Burger.
