Why 'The Sandlot' set should be next choice for MLB originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Thursday's Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa gave fans — and media — the goosebumps.
As White Sox and New York Yankees players walked out of the cornfield, it was clear that baseball needed more moments like this.
Whether fans actually attended the game or watched on TV, both parties took to Twitter to share how unique it was to see the whole movie-set magic come together.
And now that we know the Chicago Cubs are 'unofficially' taking part in next year's Field of Dreams game, it's safe to say the trend will continue, at least in Iowa.

But if Major League Baseball granted a game to be played at another famous baseball movie location, the "The Sandlot" makes the most sense.
The Sandlot field is located in Salt Lake City, Utah and brings a special uniqueness that Field of Dreams brought. Both movies feature James Earl Jones, an iconic actor and storyteller, and, of course, mention the New York Yankees. Similar to Iowa, the state of Utah has never had a game played in MLB history.

The Sandlot field was even rebuilt in 2013 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film and was a big topic in the nostalgia, pop culture world during that time.
If fans were to ever see a Sandlot game played, it would probably be between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees. Famous character Benny "The Jet' Rodriguez was a speedster and all-around great player for the Dodgers and Babe Ruth was the whole reason the kids in the movie were in a "pickle" in the first place. Of course, with all the comparisons between Shohei Ohtani and Babe Ruth, perhaps the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim could play on the Sandlot! Sandlot! Sandlot!
Just keep the home runs away from Hercules.
