Windy City Bulls won't participate in 2021 G League season originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The NBA is reprising its bubble concept at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World.
On Friday, the league announced plans for the 2021 G League season, listing 18 teams that will take the same floors on which the 2019-20 restart was forged last summer near Orlando Fla.
The Windy City Bulls, the Bulls' G League affiliate, weren't listed.
Seventeen of those squads are NBA affiliates. The 18th, the G League Ignite, is entering its inaugural season and is comprised of NBA Draft-eligible prospects that chose to forego college for more targeted training. Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga mark two significant roster inclusions. Brian Shaw coaches them. The Ignite will compete against other affiliates and be eligible for a playoff berth.
A league release said that non-participating teams (e.g. the Bulls) will still be able to transfer two-way players under "flexible" rules. The Bulls' two-way slots are currently filled by rookie guard Devon Dotson and second-year wing Adam Mokoka. As of this writing, Dotson has been active for five of the Bulls' nine games, Mokoka has been active for eight. Under new guidelines for the 2020-21 season, two-way players are afforded 50 active games with their NBA club.
And, of course, those teams participating will abide by strict health and safety protocol pertinent to preventing the spread of COVID-19.
The 2021 G League season will tip in February.
