It may be early February, but the Chicago area found itself impacted by showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, one of which even spawned a tornado to the southwest of the region.
That tornado was reported in the community of Henry in Putnam County, and while there were no immediate reports of damage, the storm continued into the Chicago area, dumping heavy rain and bringing gusty winds to the region.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, the area had been at a “marginal” risk of severe weather because of wind shear in the atmosphere and above average temperatures at the surface.
Those storms could continue to fire into the evening, but are expected to end during the overnight hours.
Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-to-upper 50s across the area on both days before dropping back into the upper-30s and low-40s on Saturday and through the remainder of the weekend.
